The Crucifixion

And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. (Mat 27:33-34)

The first photograph is the one Zach took. The skull formation in the hill is very difficult to see now, because of erosion and buildings have been built all around it.

This is an old postcard. You can see the "skull" much more clearly.

Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
(Joh 19:41-42)

Some people believe that the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (down below) marks the spot where Jesus was crucified. The church had a very strange atmosphere and people were kissing the ground and wiping their rags on the spot where they think Jesus was laid. Others believe it was near this tomb (pictured) since there is a garden and huge rock in the formation of a skull. The garden is beautiful and several groups were taking part in the Lord’s Supper near the tomb – how neat.

But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.
(Mat 28:5-6)

Really, you just can't imagine the atmosphere. I want all of us to go there and take the Lord's Supper and then sing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" and "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" (Our music minister, Phil Brooks might just go right up in to heaven! He gets pretty close sometimes. We sure miss you Phil.)

Church of the Holy Sepulchre
The "exact spot" where they laid Christ. I sure wonder what Jesus thinks about all this.
